Just re-read both of my July 26th posts. Disappointed that they have both been turned into Target commercials, but not especially surprised.
Musical Whimsings
Out of my element today.
LCD Soundsystem is best listened to at your leisure with good headphones, which makes social media sites about the worst place to post their music. I first heard “Dance Yrself Clean” wandering through a mall in Philly with about six hours to kill. Now it’s the only song I can really listen to, and I’m sure if I just came across it on the Internet it wouldn’t have stuck. But hearing that sudden crescendo when you’re in the sale section at Ann Taylor - that’s something.
In that spirit I’ll let you discover “Dance Yrself Clean” in your own time, and only impose upon your necessarily distracted senses a song that I think has an affective, if cheesy, accompanying video. Also recommended: “Losing My Edge.” But please, if you have any headphones around, do yrself a favor and slap them on. I’m going to be a hypocrite and also ask you to turn off the TV, maybe.
Wipe Your Feet: DSM VI
I’ve spent a lot of time lately thinking about the difference between “eccentric” and “crazy.” I consider myself, and most of my close friends, to be on the eccentric side of the personality scale. The scale goes something like this:
SQUARE/YUPPIE—>FUNCTIONAL BORE—>FUNCTIONAL NORMIE—>…
Someday I want to try a fresh start in a new city, and finally become the kind of person who wears hats.
